Determination of Critical Period for Sustainable Weed Management and Yield of Jute (Corchorus olitorius L.) under Sub-Tropical Condition

چکیده

A field investigation was run to ascertain the critical period of weed control in jute (Corchorus olitorius). The study consisted two distinct sets treatments, with one set weeds being left invade crop for a longer time, specifically, 15, 30, 45 and 60 days after sowing (DAS) up harvest. In other plants remained weed-free progressively periods, i.e., DAS, until reduction fibre yield (FY) recorded as 53.39% when interference permitted from beginning harvest, opposed season-long period. competition (CPWC) calculated 11 68 DAS 19 59 based on results 5% 10% loss, respectively. Under loss condition, although higher (3.36 t ha−1), benefit cost ratio (BCR) lower (1.65), whereas slightly (3.19 ha−1) but BCR (1.73) respect loss. Therefore, fields should be kept free sowing, management strategy undertaken accordingly.

Effect of Harvesting Stages and Nitrogen on Seed Quality and Yield of Jute Mallow (Corchorus olitorius L.)

Production of high quality seeds in African leafy vegetables has not been practiced due to varying reasons including incorrect harvesting stages and fertilizer rates. Jute mallow (Corchorus olitorius L.) pods do not ripen simultaneously and fruits left to dry on mother plant long before harvesting, which face seed quality deterioration. Timely seed harvesting ensures maximum seed quality attrib...

Stability Analysis of a High Fibre Yield and Low Lignin Content “Thick Stem” Mutant in Tossa Jute (Corchorus olitorius L.)

A "thick stem" mutant of Corchorus olitorius L. was induced at M2 (0.50%, 4 h, EMS) and the true breeding mutant is assessed across generations (M5 to M7) considering morphometric traits as well as SEM analysis of pollen grains and raw jute fibres, stem anatomy, cytogenetical attributes, and lignin content in relation to control. Furthermore, single fibre diameter and tensile strength are also ...

1835 - 2707 Regeneration and genetic transformation of Tossa Jute ( Corchorus olitorius L . )

The experiment was conducted to establish an efficient and reproducible protocol for the plant regeneration and genetic transformation, which can be used for the improvement of tossa Jute (Corchorus olitorius L.). It was demonstrated that the percent of seeds germination in agar based medium found to be very low (43.1%) , as compared to clinical cotton supported MS liquid medium, which was foun...

Combining Ability for Yield and Yield Contributing Characters of White Jute (corchorus Capsularis L.)*

Abstract Crosses were made between three varieties and seven accessions of white jute (Corchorus capsularis L.) in all possible combinations to establish 10 × 10 full diallel set. Variances for general combining ability (GCA) and specific combining ability (SCA) were significant or highly significant for all the characters indicating additive and non-additive gene actions played predominant rol...

Biochemistry, Medicinal and Food values of Jute (Corchorus capsularis L. and C. olitorius L.) leaf: A Review

Jute (Corchorus spp.) leaf has long been used as a remedy in many cultures. Jute leaf products, which include the leaf juice, fried leaf, and some time whole green leaf, are used, among other reasons, as laxatives, in creams for skin care, and as a treatment for a wide range of diseases, respectively. The heterogeneous nature of jute leaf products may contribute to the diverse biological and th...
